Review: The Return (Titan #1) Jennifer L Armentrout!

Spoiler Alert for The Covenant Series!

The Fates are cackling their bony asses off…

It’s been a year since Seth made the deal with the gods that pledged his life to them. And so far, the jobs they’ve given him have been violent and bloody–which is kind of all right with him. But now Apollo has something else in mind for Seth. He’s got to play protector while keeping his hands and fingers off, and for someone who really has a problem with restraint, this new assignment might be the most challenging yet.

Josie has no idea what this crazy hot guy’s deal might be, but it’s a good bet that his arrival means the new life she started after leaving home is about to be thrown into an Olympian-sized blender turned up to puree. Either Josie is going insane or a nightmare straight out of ancient myth is gunning for her.

But it might be the unlikely attraction simmering between her and the golden-eyed, secret-keeping Seth that may prove to be the most dangerous thing of all.

Because history has once again been flipped to repeat.

Book 1 in the new adult paranormal TITAN series, spin-off to the best selling COVENANT series.

My Review

JLA certainly knows how to write awesome books!  They are always filled to the brim with amazing characters, full of action (both kinds if you know what I mean) and fantastic stories.  This is why she is one of my favorite authors.  Why I would give up my first born just to be able to read one of her new books early.  Luckily, I managed to grab The Return at Book Con last year.  My future children are safe.  For now.

The Return is the first book in The Titan series, which is a spin off of JLA’s Covenant series.  The Covenant series is YA, this series is not, it’s NA.  So if you are a youngin’ then I would wait until you are older.  So, you don’t really need to read the Covenant series to understand what’s going on in this book because you kind of get a crash course of major events throughout it but I would still read that because it’s an amazing series.

The Return takes place a year after Sentinel ends.  Our main characters are Seth and Josie and we, the readers, are fortunate to get to read from both of their POVs, which is just amazing.

I loved the dynamic between these two.  And I just love how they hate each other in the beginning but slowly start to feel more towards each other.  It’s just the best thing ever.  Their banter and snarky comebacks toward one another literally give me life and make me grin and squeal like the fangirl I am.

I absolutely fell in love with Josie.  She’s so strong and not physically like Alex (Covenant series) was but mentally.  She saw so much tragedy in such a short amount of time and had her whole world turned upside down multiple times and managed to hold it all together.  When you find out who and what she is?  Awesome.

Seth is just Seth.  It’s great to be in his mind and get to know him a little more.  I liked him at the beginning of the Covenant series and then hated him and then loved him at the end of Sentinel, so I really had no idea how I would feel about him and have a whole book let alone a series focused on him.  But it turned out that I fell completely head over ass in love with him!  You really get to know him and it’s so eye opening.

The two of them together is perfection.  Not just the playful arguing but the serious stuff, too.  I loved it all.  The way that she doesn’t just see him as the Apollyon but as a man and how he wants her for her and not because of some creepy bond.  It was a beautiful realization.

The plot was of course epic.  After Sentinel ended you knew that they were going to have problems with Perses and the rest of the Titans.  And you know that this book is just a set up for the rest of the series because not much happened in the action department.  I mean, obviously stuff happened but it just wasn’t action heavy, which is totally alright.  I really enjoyed getting to know Seth more and of course Josie.  Which, I think we, the readers needed to do after knowing what happened with Seth in the previous series.  It was also great that we got to see some familiar faces.  Deacon, Apollo, Luke, Marcus and Solos make appearances.

I just have to say that I love Apollo and Deacon.  They are probably my favorite secondary characters of all time.  They’re just so hilarious and perfect.  And I love Luke too, how he’s so protective of Deacon.  I love those crazy kids and how in love they are!

The ending was absolutely epic and I can’t wait for the sequel!  If you’re a fan of the Covenant series or just a fan of JLA in general then you need to pick this book up.  And you’re in luck, because The Return just released today!  Go get it!
